PRESS RELEASE: Local Vancouver choir wows the judges on Canada's Got Talent

Vancouver, BC, March 22, 2022 — With 4 yeses from the judges, Lions Gate Chorus wins the hearts of Canadians from Coast to Coast

When the opportunity to audition for Canada's Got Talent (CGT) came to light, Lions Gate Chorus almost let it pass them by. "I have to admit I very quickly wrote the opportunity off as not possible. Due to COVID-19 we hadn't been able to sing together for almost 2 years and I wasn't sure we had enough time to pull it together." says Sandy Marron, Musical Director.

Breaking down those logical, mental barriers took a few days but then their mantra of "daring greatly" broke through and they decided to go for it.

“My chorus absolutely amazed me! They learned and relearned the song and choreography in record time! They fitted their costumes,” says Sandy, “and they gave 110% in the few short weeks before we auditioned and made our national debut on Citytv’s Canada's Got Talent.”

Organizing a large group to travel is never easy but their members jumped on board whole-heartedly, raised funds, and found a way! 64 of the nearly 100 members of Lions Gate Chorus landed in Niagara Falls for an experience of a lifetime.

It has been totally worth it so far as the chorus completely wowed the live audience and all four judges; Howie Mandel, Trish Stratus, Lilly Singh, and Kardinal Offishall.

“It was so much fun,” says Lilly Singh about the audition, “but also in a way made me feel…really emotional because I feel like my entire life, especially the culture I come from, ya know, my mom and my aunt are always talking about, “we’re too old for this”. And it makes me so happy to see a group of women that are like, “We love each other, we’re having fun, we’re going to do this for US”, and I was just SO HAPPY!”

“We are used to singing on an international stage for a panel of judges within our organization of Sweet Adelines International,” says Stacey Rose, Marketing Coordinator for the group, “but this has been a whole new level of amazing for us! Singing and performing for a panel of judges who are legends in the world of Canadian entertainment, and for a brand new audience has been an incomparable thrill so far.”

Canada's Got Talent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on Citytv, with catch-up available on Citytv.com and the Citytv app.
