Director Celebrates 25 years with Vegas-Bound Vancouver Chorus

Sandy Robinson Marron invites new singers to join Lions Gate Chorus

as they prepare to compete in the entertainment capital of the world

Vancouver, BC – As an award-winning Musical Director, Sandy Robinson Marron has been the dynamic force behind the success of Lions Gate Chorus, the longest-standing Canadian chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of 23,000 women singing a cappella in the barbershop style. This November marks her 25th anniversary of directing and the 90-strong group of women will be celebrating their beloved and “lion-hearted” leader while also inviting new singers to join the Vegas-bound chorus as they prepare for their next international competition in 2017.

“When one thinks of all that is best in a cappella in the barbershop style, Sandy Robinson Marron immediately comes to mind. Sandy exemplifies the dedication, commitment and unfailing energy needed to be successful, selflessly giving her time and energy to further the art form in both the women’s and men’s organizations” explains Cammi MacKinlay, a 30-year member of Lions Gate Chorus and past President of Sweet Adelines International

Since 1991, Robinson Marron has consistently elevated the ensemble in the competition ranks. Under her leadership, Lions Gate Chorus has been chosen to represent Western Canada twelve times at the international competition level, and placed in the top five as international medalists every time they have competed in the last 10 years.

MacKinlay, equates the international competition aspect to the ‘Olympics’ of singing.  She  explains, “Similarly to sport Olympians, all competitors require the same persistence, drive, and commitment as they devote countless hours of practice and dedication to the pursuit of excellence in singing and performance”.

In order to qualify for international competitions, choruses and quartets must first achieve a high ranking at the regional level. The final international competition amasses 7,000 or more women to one location every year to compete, be judged and awarded for excellence.

Robinson Marron is a Certified Sound Judge herself and International Faculty of Sweet Adelines International. She has also earned the title of Master 700 Director in the Director Certification Program, the highest designation possible, and is highly sought-after world-wide as an a cappella vocal coach.  Her other achievements include 2004 International Quartet Champion as a tenor with her quartet “Brava”, and 2016 International 9th Placement as a tenor with her quartet “Glow”.

“What I really love about Lions Gate Chorus is that every woman here joins because they love this style of a cappella singing, but they stay for the community – the relationships that are formed with these amazing women,” says Robinson Marron, who is actively recruiting new members to join the chorus in the lead-up to the 2017 Sweet Adelines International competition.

But before heading off to Vegas, the acclaimed Musical Director will showcase her chorus in Vancouver on November 27th for a special matinee performance of touching ballads, explosive up-tunes and holiday classics, all in 4-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style.
