Lions Gate Chorus proudly took to the stage May 5 2018 at the Region 26 Chorus and Quartet competition held in Surrey BC. 16 choruses from the Western half of Canada (Saskatoon-> Vancouver Island) competed in front of a panel of international judges for scores, comments and placement. Lions Gate performed “Something Good” a luscious ballad and “Hello Dolly” a sexy up tune. Perform them we did as we took not only the top spot (Regional Gold) but earned the highest score in the Region’s history - 716 points.
For those of you who may not know, the top Chorus (and quartet) from each region qualifies to compete on the International stage. For Lions Gate that means New Orleans in September 2019. The road to NOLA starts now! We begin to learn new music to perform at International, we bring in some of the world’s best vocal ensemble (barbershop) coaches to improve our vocal standards, and emotional performance. We bring our amazing choreographer in from Sweden to teach the movement for our new songs. We also brainstorm entertainment package ideas and engage the crazy talents within the Chorus to create a cohesive show with a message for the finals. It is a lot of work, yes, but so very rewarding.
We just can’t close this post without mentioning another record breaking milestone! This year saw the most quartets competing in the Region’s history, and we are so proud to say that 8 of the 21 competing quartets include one or more lionesses. Not only that but 3 of the top 5 quartets included one or more lionesses.
It’s clear that we raise champions at Lions Gate, but like any pride, we also love each other, care for each other, and help each other become stronger women. Lions Gate Chorus is an amazing growth opportunity for all women. Experience the pride.... come inside!
